School communities are at the heart of national conversations about racial injustice and equity movements for all. The America to Me docu-series opens the doors to a high school outside of Chicago, where students and teachers struggle to navigate crucial issues of race, identity, culture, privilege and education. The MOT is proud to offer free professional development opportunities for California educators and conferences for students. All attendees will receive a free trial to access all 10 episodes of America to Me on Film Platform, plus tools and ideas to help ignite change around issues of race and equity in your school!!
The goal is to host individual workshops for classroom educators, administrators and students – and then bring everyone together for a town hall/ day of strategic planning that will also include school board members and State Senator Ben Allen.
Offered in the MOT’s experiential setting, the program includes custom tours of museum exhibits, facilitated dialogue, special speakers - and lunch! Special workshop presenters will include:

Learn with peers to use America to Me to address racial inequity in schools, advancing dialogue and strategies for change. This workshop will be led by series subject Dr. Chala Holland, principal of Lake Forest H.S. and 2018 recipient of the Courageous Conversation Principal Leadership Award.

Youth Leadership Conference: Be an advocate for race equity in your school. This one-day event will help you use the docu-series America to Me as a tool to identify and discuss inequities in your own school. Led by series teacher Jess Stovall you will have the chance to engage in courageous conversation with other students, including a video chat with student leaders at the OPRF High School who will inspire you with their equity work. You will leave this workshop with ideas and strategies to create change in your school!

FOR CLASSROOM EDUCATORS February 24-25, 2019 |
This is a two-day immersive workshop for CLASSROOM EDUCATORS! Look within and learn how to unpack your own personal biases, engage in a deep dive exploration of equity in schools, meet subject experts from the docu-series, and gain tools to bring back to your classroom and community. Dr. Darnisa Amante from D.E.E.P. (Disruptive Equity Education Project) will be leading the equity training and special guest JESS STOVALL from the America to Me series will be in attendance!
The program also includes a Data Equity Walk led by Ed Trust - West and a closing workshop led by Pedro Noguera to discuss equity strategies and next steps.
