Combat Hate (East Coast)

A Digital Empowerment Experience for 8th - 12th Grades

Register now for a new dynamic workshop (in-person or virtual) that engages students in critical thinking for decoding and rejecting online hate. COMBAT HATE is an online safety curriculum aligned with ISTE digital citizenship standards and based on foundational media literacy skills. Students will apply Center for Media Literacy’s 5 key questions to diverse real life examples compiled by the Simon Wiesenthal Center's Research Department. They are challenged to interpret the hateful messages and their impact. The workshop ends using an action planning worksheet which all students keep and share for ongoing use.

The workshop is 50 minutes and is delivered in your classroom (or via Zoom) by one of our trained facilitators.

The Museum of Tolerance is a recognized provider of anti-bias and critical thinking education in Los Angeles. Drawing from the Museum’s exhibits such as “Digital Hate.com” and “Assuming Responsibility” the workshop is interactive and engages youth in determining their own solutions. The workshop provides an opportunity to begin and maintain critical conversations between adults and students regarding online safety and speaking up against hate.
