The Museum of Tolerance invites you to a workshop in partnership with the Better Arguments Project to gain insights and strategies for navigating the challenging conversations of our time. The premise of the Better Arguments Project is that to counter the dangerous fragmentation that we are experiencing in civic life today, we need better — not fewer — arguments. The Project was created to help bridge divides, not by papering over those divides but by helping people engage each other more directly and more productively. The goal is for arguments to be rooted in history, emotionally intelligent, and honest about power imbalances. This interactive workshop was designed to equip middle and high school educators with the skills and dispositions to have better arguments in school communities — and to lead others in doing so. It features speakers from Facing History & Ourselves, Better Arguments Project, Middle Ground School Solutions and Museum of Tolerance and promotes group discussions. The Better Arguments Project will give an orientation to its new middle and high school curriculum and share free take-away resources. (1.5 hours) “We believe the more people engage each other in better arguments, the healthier and stronger our democracy will be.” – Better Arguments Project The Better Arguments Project is a partnership among the Aspen Institute’s Citizenship and American Identity Program, the nonprofit organization Facing History and Ourselves, and Allstate.
