Internationally renowned artist from South Africa, Dean Simon, depicts the lives of rare individuals who endured deep suffering and found the strength to build from the ruins of despair. They are iconic and heroic figures from the Holocaust, other genocides and human rights struggles who have risen from the abyss to shed light and hope on the world.
Dean Scott Simon was born in 1965 in Johannesburg, South Africa. Intense and charming, Simon has always marched to his own drumbeat. Blessed with unique and distinctive talent, he uses graphite pencil to create his photo-like works which are unlike any photographs ever seen. Limited only by his visionary imagination, Simon merges eras and ages, bending time and space, geography and history, to unveil his critical perceptions. All this he does in intricate and exquisite detail, producing hyper-realistic scenes that are heart-wrenchingly accurate and simultaneously inaccessible.
