About

In recognition of Genocide Awareness Month, the Museum of Tolerance invites audiences to a powerful facilitated intergenerational dialogue between Holocaust survivor Gabriella Karin and third-generation Armenian Genocide descendant Arpi Krikorian. These artists exemplify the transformative power of art in preserving collective memory and sustaining cultural identity.

Following the dialogue, participants are invited to take part in a special gallery walk showcasing Gabriella and Arpi’s artwork. This experience will offer a profound opportunity to witness how firsthand testimony through creative expression can honor the past and shape contemporary understandings of resilience.

Facilitated discussion and Q&A moderated by the Museum of Tolerance’s Director of Content and Learning, Ann Pesahovitz.

Artist Spotlight:

Gabriella Karin, known for her powerful statuary work and her collection The Agony of the Holocaust, artistically narrates the arc of Nazi persecution through the Holocaust and into its aftermath, reflecting the diverse experiences of its victims. Her work, although deeply emotional and harrowing, remains anchored in hope, symbolized by colorful butterflies that flourish in the face of destruction.

Arpi Krikorian, a prolific painter and designer, whose work has been notably featured in the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art, explores Armenian history through cultural joy and celebration rather than through the images of violence and loss that Arpi was inundated with as a young woman. Inspired to reclaim cultural narratives Arpi set out to preserve the traditional cultural expressions threatened by genocide— emphasizing strength and resilience.
