As the Nazi’s came to power in Germany as early as 1933, Hollywood Studios altered scripts, cut sensitive scenes, avoided anti-Nazi or pro-Jewish material, and at times even consulted representatives of the Reich, all to preserve access to the lucrative overseas box office.
Hollywood and Hitler reveals an industry caught between ideals and compromise. At the heart of the story is Leon Lewis, a Jewish American lawyer who organized an undercover network to monitor Nazi activity in Los Angeles and warn Hollywood and Washington, often in vain.
A conversation follows the screening with filmmakers Clara and Julia Kuperberg and from the film, Steven J. Ross, Historian and author of Hitler and Los Angeles moderated by David Suissa, Publisher & Editor-in-Chief, Tribe Media/Jewish Journal.
