Rita Weiser

Rita tells the story of her late husband, Jerry.
 
Jerry Weiser was born Henrich Juraj in 1941 in Bratislava, Slovakia. Soon after his birth, his mother found herself in the Bratislava Ghetto and knew that she would soon be deported. When he was six or seven months old, she had him smuggled out of the Ghetto and placed with the priest of the nearby church. He was then passed on to a farmer's family who resided in the hills outside Bratislava. He spent the war years in hiding with the farmer's family. When the war ended in 1945, friends of his mother’s came for him and became his foster parents.

For over three decades, Holocaust Survivors have volunteered their time at the Museum of Tolerance to speak about their experiences during World War II. Over 50,000 visitors per year meet and hear a Holocaust survivor or 2nd generation speaker. These speakers are ambassadors of memory, hope, and tolerance.
