Join us for a meaningful afternoon celebrating the beautiful parallels between Latin and Jewish traditions of remembrance, tradiciones para recordar. This family-friendly event for all ages will explore how both cultures honor and remember loved ones who have passed.

Experience the vibrant colors and customs of ‘Dia de los Muertos’, such as Mariachi music to enliven the spirits and building an ofrenda, an altar to memorialize loved ones, alongside Jewish traditions like placing stones on gravesides and yahrzeit observance (lighting candles on the anniversary of loved one’s passing). 

Through interactive activities, storytelling, music, and community building, we'll discover the universal language of love and memory that transcends cultural boundaries for the Latino/e community, the Jewish community, and the Latin-Jewish community.

We are grateful to our hosts at the Museum of Tolerance for housing this beautiful bridge-building event. This is a welcoming, inclusive gathering for families of all backgrounds who wish to learn about and celebrate these rich traditions of remembrance.

Event Activities

Holiday-Themed Crafts
Create beautiful ‘Dia de los Muertos’ decorations and keepsakes to take home. From calaveras (skulls) to memory stones and marigolds to yahrzeit (memorial) candles, families will work together on meaningful crafts that honor loved ones.

Live Mariachi Performance
Enjoy the joyful sounds of traditional Mariachi music that brings the spirit of celebration to remembrance.

Animated Film Screening
Watch the animated film, ‘The Tattooed Torah’ (La Pequeña Torá Tatuada) in Spanish with English subtitles, which beautifully illustrates themes of memory, cultural tradition, hope and resilience.

Delicious Snacks
Savor traditional Latin and Jewish refreshments that reflect the culinary heritage of both cultures.

Bet Tzedek Legal Services ("House of Justice" in Hebrew) is a nonprofit legal aid organization that has been providing free legal services to low-income individuals and families in Los Angeles since 1974. Guided by Jewish values of justice and compassion, Bet Tzedek serves people of all backgrounds, offering help with issues ranging from Holocaust reparations to employment rights, ensuring that everyone has access to legal representation.
