Butterfly

Nominated for the 2026 Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film. Butterfly is an animated film inspired by the life of Alfred Nakache, a French swimming champion who participated in the 1936 Berlin Olympics and set numerous records.

Museum of Tolerance, Los Angeles Jewish Film Festival, and Holocaust Museum Los Angeles present Butterfly

Butterfly is an animated film inspired by the life of Alfred Nakache, a French swimming champion who participated in the 1936 Berlin Olympics and set numerous records. Facing antisemitism during the Second World War, he was deported with his family to Auschwitz. Only survivor at the end of the war, he resumed competing and participated in the first post-war Olympic Games in London in 1948.

A Q&A with director Florence Miailhe will follow the screening.
